How to Establish Good Eating Habits

Updated: Sep 16, 2023

What to eat? When to eat? How to make it? These questions float around our brains many times during the day. Planning is the answer.

"When life is busy, being prepared isn’t half the battle; it is the battle."

This quote motivates me to spend a few hours a week in the kitchen, cooking and prepping for the days ahead. Usually, I do this on a day off or while making another meal.

Prepare fast and easy meal options that are easy to pack, go, and delicious. Everything from salads, grains, make-ahead meals, super snacks, and more. This is an effective and inexpensive way to start establishing good eating habits and have fun with it.

I suggest anyone wanting healthier meals learns to make food in batches, prep ingredients, and pack them to keep fresh.

Here are some suggestions to get you going:

Step 1- Create a weekly menu that includes vegetables, fruits, legumes, proteins, nuts, and grains you like. Play with ingredients that you are unfamiliar with in your menus.

Step 2- Prep, cook and pack. Pack grains, proteins, and legumes in separate containers. Mix your salad greens and pack them in different to-go containers. Prep your veggies; cut them into bite-size, spiralize, sautéed, or broil them.

Step 3- Play with your food. Mix and match your prepped ingredients. For example, top a salad container with grains, legumes, nuts, or seeds. Add as many different colors as possible.
